Compostable sunglasses! / Gafas compostables!

Here’s some powerful information you might have not paid too much attention to before. Sunglasses. We all have them, use them, and love them. Some of us have dozen different ones, others buy a pair right after losing one (which could even be every other week!), and most people throw away sunnies without thinking about their afterlife. Reality is, almost all sunglasses are made of plastic- a petroleum based material that takes hundreds to thousands of years to decompose. It harms nature, our animals, our oceans, and our future. You’ve seen the news! The detrimental consequences of plastic products are finally being revealed worldwide, but none of this matters if YOU don’t do something about it! Get informed and become a wiser consumer! Even with little steps as simple as choosing the brand of your sunglasses consciously. It counts! Why? Because 100 million eyewear frames are sold every year resulting in about 20,000,000 lbs of plastic (product AND packaging) destined for our landfills. How about that for irritating numbers? Now, here’s some positivity to sweeten the frustrating sensation of the plastic industry: there are incredible brands reshaping the world with their products, missions and practices! Pela is one of them! You have probably already heard of Pela’s biodegradable iphone cases, right? Well, they have now added biodegradable and compostable sunglasses to their earth-loving portfolio! These sunnies are made of flax straw and cellulose acetate derived from cotton and wood, and verified to be 100% biodegradable (based on ISO standards). In other words, once your sunglasses have reached the end of their life, simply pop out the lenses to recycle them, and throw the frame into your compost. Or, you can also send your sunnies back to Pela in order for them to clean them up and give them to someone in need, or turn them into new products, or even compost them through our Pela 360 program.

Have you checked them out already? :) Head to Pela for more!

:) Vayan a Pela.
