Crazy about Nut Milk!
With so many options nowadays, who needs dairy?! Making nut milk is so simple and cheap. Yes! I said cheap. If you buy nut milks at grocery stores, not only are you getting a product full of preservatives (even though the milk is labeled organic), but they can also be really expensive compared to buying nuts and doing it yourself. It takes less than 10 minutes guys and it can be stored in your fridge for up to a week. (Normal time is 3-5 days but always make sure you smell it and check the color to make sure it looks good when stored for too long. The longest mine hast lasted was 8 days)
Ingredients:
-3 cups water
-1 cup nuts of your choice (cashews or almonds or macadamia. The ones I love the most are almond and cashew milk)
*Soak your nuts prior to use to break their enzyme inhibitors (helps you digest them easier). Almonds 8-12 hrs. Cashews 4-6 hrs. Rinse nuts.
-Blend ingredients in high-speed blender thoroughly and than strain with a nut milk bag or cheesecloth. Squeeze all milk out. Clean your blender and then pour the strained milk back in and add each of the following. After each addition taste the milk and notice the difference.
-1 tablespoon agave, then taste.
-Pinch salt, then taste.
-1 tablespoon extra-virgin coconut oil (taste) -1 teaspoon vanilla (taste)
*For Chocolate: Add 1⁄4 cup cacao powder and 1 tablespoon agave
*For Strawberry: Add 1 cup strawberries, fresh or frozen. Strain if desired.
